What licenses do I need on a DeviceLink Agent?

Depending on the types of devices that you'll be backing up, you may need licensed vendor software installed on the same machine as the Agent

Copia's DeviceLink Agent leverages vendor tools when required to do a backup. Examples of these include the Rockwell Studio 5000 IDE and RSLinx communication software, or the CODESYS or TIA Portal IDEs. These vendors require that the Agent has a licensed copy of the software that is used to execute the backup. For example, if you are planning to backup Rockwell and Siemens PLCs from the same DeviceLink Agent, you will need licenses for both Studio 5000 and TIA Portal activate on the Agent.

It is up to the Copia customer to activate or install these licenses on the Agent machines. You can find out which DeviceLink device types require licensed software by visiting our Documentation.

Some device types, such as FTP, don't require a licensed copy of software on the Agent since they are able to use Windows-native or free applications and protocols to execute the device backup.
